My husband Mike and I frequently walk on Dartmoor and it never fails to lift my spirits and open my heart. It is as if our feet are picking up the rhythms of the earth, that they are traveling up to my heart … I feel it in my soul … the beauty and strangeness of this land, its hills and hollows hiding secrets, a trickling stream, an ancient tree – where travellers over centuries have sheltered from the cold winds. There is a mystery to this land, it feels alive, vibrates with wisdom beyond our perceptions. It is one of the last true wildernesses of our island. Its air weaves itself into my very soul, and it is this alchemy I pour onto the canvas.
